Barley House Wolves Host 5-A-Side Indoor Tournament
A determined team from Portland headed down to Bow, New Hampshire this past weekend to
play in the first annual Barley House Wolves 5-a-side indoor hurling tournament. With a few seasoned
veterans, one new recruit and Chris Fleming as bainisteoir, the team put up a valiant effort, winning 1
game and losing 2 close matches.
In their first match of the day, Portland lost to Team RamRod, made up of Barley House Wolves
players, by a score of 11-7. Game two found the Portland team in the losers bracket against another
team made up of Wolves players, but this time, the score was in their favor (11-3). After advancing with
a win in game 2, the Portland team was up against Last Hooah, made up again of Barley House Wolves
players. In a closely contested match, Portland fell 15-11 to end their day and stay in the tournament.
Offensively, the team was lead by Dan Flanagan, Matt Anderson, Mike Delahanty, and
newcomer Albert McCormack while Joel Wezowicz and Casey McCormack anchored the defense. While
they didn't take home the grand prize of Maple Syrup and a slab of granite (and bragging rights), they
did escape with minimal injuries and a good time had by all.
Thanks again to the Wolves for putting on the tournament and all members of the team who
could get out and represent Portland Hurling Club.
In The News!
Portland Hurling Club was represented by Mike Delahanty and Conor Boyle at The Maine Heritage Center in Portland, welcoming the Consul General of Ireland Brendan O'Caollai and the Vice Consul
Jillian O'Keeffe. O'Caollai was proud to see a sport steeped in Irish hitory making its way to the United States and shares his Irish pride with the 37 Million American who claim Irish ancestory. Read the full article on the

2014 Season Recap
The 2014 season has officially come to an end. We had made some changes at the beginning of the season with the addition of our bainestoir (coach) Pete Marrieta who did a great job keeping our
sidelines organized during travel games and helped keep our training and pub games moving in the right direction on Wednesdays. Although our travel team did not make it to Nationals this year,
we started practicing 13 a side in our pub league games to help prepare us more for those all too important travel games against Hartford, Worcester, and Barley House Wolves. This year we had
the pleasure of welcoming rookies Conor Boyle, Dan Flanagan and Doug Adams to the club! All three played a major role and had an immediate impact on the field. We are always looking to recruit
new members/teammates so if you, or anyone you know, is interested please don't hesitate to contact us either via our website, or follow us on Facebook (PortlandHurlingClub)
or Twitter (@PortlandGAA)!
A little About PHC
The Portland Hurling Club was formed in 2007 and has competed as a part of the Gaelic Athletic Association
(GAA) since 2008 as Maine's only registered GAA club. Our travel team is a member of the Boston/Northeast
region 'Jr. C' division and plays regular season matches against teams from Massachusetts, Connecticut,
and New Hampshire. On the national level, PHC has played in seven states and Canada and the club has
represented New England at the North American Championships five times, winning the shield trophy in San
Francisco in 2011 and in Philadelphia in 2012. (read more...)
